McDonald’s
DETAILS
McDonald’s is an American fast food company, founded in 1940 as a restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald. The bright yellow letter M for McDonald’s has to be one of the most recognizable logos in the entire world. It adorns McDonald’s restaurants across the globe and “The Golden Arches” has become all but synonymous with McDonald’s itself.
Caruso Turley Scott has been providing design services for McDonald’s since 1990.
In 1992 Caruso Turley Scott provided structural engineering for the world’s only McDonald’s with different colored arches. In Sedona, Arizona, the only arches you’ll see are turquoise! Sedona is famous for its stunning natural beauty—namely, its mountainous red rock landscape. Because of said landscape, there are rules in place for buildings in Sedona, to make sure that no structure intrudes too much on the surrounding natural scenery. City officials believed that a bright yellow M would do just that, they claimed that gold would clash with the surrounding red rocks, and opted for a more pleasing, turquoise. The color-change makes the Sedona McDonald’s stand out. In fact, the unique not-so-golden arches have become an essential tourist destination for travelers.
